Rosser Newton is a Dallas businessman, energy investor, and author with more than 35 years of experience in energy banking, private equity, and company leadership. He is the founder of Petro Capital Group, a Dallas investment firm established in 2002 that provides growth capital to companies in the oil, gas, and oilfield services industries. A native Texan, Newton is also the author of Richard Coke: Texan, a biography of the fifteenth governor of Texas published in November 2024.
Three decades at the intersection of energy and Texas history
Newton began his career in corporate finance at Goldman Sachs in New York before returning to Texas, where he spent a decade raising capital and investing in privately held energy businesses. He founded Petro Capital Group in 2002 and has served as chairman or director of numerous energy companies.
His second career grew out of a lifelong fascination with the state itself. Years of archival research became Richard Coke: Texan, honored by the Texas Senate and presented at the annual meeting of the Texas State Historical Association.
